“How’s it going? – A New Year? A New Day?” – question asked.
“Oh the same old, same old,” comes the cliched same old answer.
And it sounds so glass-half empty – so not new – so already faltering outside the New Year gate.
Sometimes, even on a shiny New Year day, that’s how I feel.
Laundry still piled up. Hungry mouths to feed. Teens still angsting – just maybe over different things. Trying to grow where I’m planted, though I find myself sometimes surprised about exactly where I am.
There’s a lot of same old, same old in my life . . . . I might be living in a same old, same old 24/7 world – but I am learning to live it with a mercies-renewed-each-morning attitude. Not like a one-time gift that we have to make last – with crazy glue and duct tape.
Won’t you join me over at The Mom Initiative for the rest of this post. I am so excited to start my New Year there today!
Thanks so much for this inspiring post today, Maryleigh! Hoping your 2014 is filled with marvelous and blessed “same-olds” 🙂
Good morning and Happy New Year Maryleigh! Went over and read your entire post and so glad I did. I think we all feel at times like it’s the same old but the verse telling us that it’s new every morning is so true. I love that verse because it reminds me that no matter what I get a new chance every day! And HIS mercy…oh what would we do without it? Can’t wait to read more of your posts this year….Blessings Chelle
Thanks so much for your comment and for stopping by this morning. Your post this morning is very much along the same lines as my thought process. I needed to hear it and to realize we get second chances every day not just once a year.
Love and Hugs ~ Kat
mercies renewed every morning…i dont put a whole lot of stock in the new year…only because each day is new if we want…and there are somethings that with repetition are great and comforting…and somethings i just have to break out of….
Thanks so much for your sweet comments on my blog, Arise 2 Write. God bless you as you! Hugs and prayers, Andrea
Oh how wonderful your words were. I found my eyes wet whenever you referred to your sons. I have some of my own in various stages of prodigal. Praise Him for mercies new every morning!
Love this post! I shared it on Twitter from the Mom Initiative site. Thanks for such sweet encouragement. And I don’t think I’d ever seen a pic of you before, even tho’ I’ve visited your blog in the past. Seeing your photo at the end of the post made me feel like we’d finally “met” 🙂 Blessings!
Hi Maryleigh, I loved this post. I left my comment over at the full post. I pray for you and your family a great and joyful new year!
God bless
Tracy
Grand post for Spiritual Sunday! This year is a year of new beginnings for me – new city in the state of Washington. New church. New adventures with real estate. New games with the grandkids. But I remember well those years when it really was the same year to year. Yet, thanks to God, He always kept it new and blessed. I love the passage you shared, and have seen it proved out over and over. Have a blessed and beautiful week full of new blessings from God. 🙂
Such a great perspective to tackle the new year….new mercies every day! Amen! Thanks for stopping by to say hi 🙂
