Long ago, as a child and teen, I walked up the street, by the shop where my mom worked and on up to my aunt’s, feet shuffling fallen leaves over sidewalk paths uneven with tree roots and wear. Maybe the daily or yearly repetition imprinted the sounds and smell into my senses – but my ears hear, my eyes look – and something inside remembers – and loves Fall all the more because it’s like
Living home
I stole out one late afternoon, photographing the oaks and maples, with their branches raised high, reaching – and I believed they clapped their hands in praise to this almighty Father
And the leaves shine with an inside fire of a setting sun – and yellow, red, orange and fuscia became like metallic gold with ruby veins, precious metals and stones hanging from tree limbs
And the daily became something of God
Just this week, walking another path, to the daily – buttery yellow Ginkgo Biloba leaves flurried down
leaf-fall in the morning brightness
And I thought how the tree tells us a story from the root of Jesse to limbs raised high in praise – and how it all comes showering down on me in a Holy Spirit leaf confetti fall – from root to leaf He helps me welcome Him and the day
He has become a part of my senses and my soul remembers –
And before it’s begun, my day is refreshed.
Nicely written. I usually have a yellow carpet in my yard too. However, this year my husband raked the leaves too quickly. I didn’t have the heart to tell him I really liked them where they were!
I loved all your descriptions and the sweet way all creation praises Him when we have eyes to see. Thank you.
You captured the essence of Fall beautifully. “The earth declares Your majesty.” And when our lives and words point to Him we too are beautiful because of His glory in us. Great post.
Mary Leigh,
“Holy Spirit confetti fall”…yes:)…love that image…thank you…wishing you and yours a blessed weekend 🙂
Dear Mary-Leigh
Oh, I would love to be showered with a Holy Spirit golden leaf confetti shower while walking into the new day with out Lord. It looks like a golden carpet fit for the King of Heaven to walk on. Your photos are brilliant and the first one shines with a cacophony of color!
Blessings XX

I love the imagery in your writing today…I love fall and the beautiful colors, followed by the crunchy leaves. Definitely my favorite time of year. 🙂 Have a great weekend!
Thanks for bringing these final beauties of fall front and center this weekend, blue cotton friend! Winter is drawing nigh …
Oh I loved this part! “And I thought how the tree tells us a story from the root of Jesse to limbs raised high in praise – and how it all comes showering down on me in a Holy Spirit leaf confetti fall – from root to leaf He helps me welcome Him and the day”
Where would we be without that ” Holy Spirit leaf confetti”? This was a beautiful post. 🙂
Now I want some hot apple cider! You make it sound delicious 🙂 Fall is such a lovely season. I only wish it didn’t disappear so quickly. Thanks for the reminder to soak it all up while we can. Beautiful post!
Hi Mary Leigh! The fact the leaves touched so many senses really helps to remember, doesn’t it? I think that’s why we have to see the Lord in all, through all and around all, so we don’t have a reason to miss him.
I LOVE that photo of the shelves with all the leaves on it. Why not show off the beauty of what God has done in his nature? Such a fun image. And so is the image of “living home.”
Blessings,
Ceil
What a lovely post – both in words and pictures. There are many spiritual lessons we can learn from trees – in every season. And Fall has to be one of the most beautiful.
GOD BLESS!
