“The childhood shows the man as morning shows the day” (Milton)
It is often the character a mother discerns watching her children
play, solve problems, and pray
that sustains during the great pulling away to independence.
We all have a little bit of Mary within us who
“kept all these things. A mother forgets none of those things which occur respecting her children”
(Luke 2:19; The People’s New Testament)
Not forgetting the good things
grows hope
until the mantle of independence is no longer about the right to make cigarrette and beer decisions
but real-man decisions
Godly- man decisions
that glimmered
in the morning of their life.
A discerning mother looks into her children’s heart
willing herself to see
not what she
feels
or
wants to see
but
what
God put there.
Wonderful post!
That is awesome.
I love it…Thank you for that.
Beautiful.
And I am going to spend a little more time trying to look into my 13-year old son’s heart and a little less time being annoyed at who he is right now.
What a wonderful post! Thanks for sharing with us.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today! 🙂
Beautiful, beautiful. Just last night in the car, I was thinking as my 10 year-old was talking non-stop, I need to enjoy who he IS instead of worrying about who I think he should be. A common struggle we have as mamas.
That was beautifully written. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope you’re having a blessed weekend!
Oh I love this Maryleigh. I’ll have to return to this post when my kids become teenagers. (:
Awesome, as usual!
I hope you all are enjoying a wonderful summer. I can’t believe it is almost time for school to begin again. :*( I am suffering terribly from almost-empty nest syndrome. I don’t want to let go of the next one who is about to leave in a couple of weeks to enter college. I am just no good at this. Two down, one to go. I don’t like it. I. Don’t. Like. It. *stomping foot*
I hope you and all your boys are having a great weekend.

Beautiful. Love this: “A discerning mother looks into her children’s heart willing herself to see not what she wants to see but what God put there”.
What a great post to read on this happy Monday morning. Very wise.
What an extraordinarily beautiful post. Came by from SITS to say hi this morning, glad I did.
Wow! What a powerful reminder as moms to look beyond what is seen to the motive and intents of the heart. This was a blessing and encouragement to me today. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful post!
