I’ve had it with Wal-Mart’s duplicity. Wal-Mart provides low prices for back to school – its aisles lined with parents clutching lists of school suppplies, plunking down a lot of money just to send the kids back to school. (I admit – I not only have a Christmas account. I now have a back-to-school account.)- and while you are throwing down that money, your children are reading Cosmopolitan’s magazine front page titles like “Guy Sex” and “How to Turn your Man on from 20 feet away.” All on the cover of the magazines in the check out aisle.
Family Friendly? – What a crock! Family-Friendly Wal-Mart died with Sam Walton.
The store manager informed me that they had a lot of people complain, but they were not able to do anything about it because those decisions “came from corporate.” Usually, I get the line, “Well, the magazine people are in charge of that. We have no control over what they do” – which leaves me wondering if they truly think I am that stupid? If I rent space out to someone, then don’t they have to follow my rules? Give me a break!
It infuriates me that Disney will change the Pirates of the Caribbean ride over only 4 complaints – but when it comes to sexually explicit material in a grocery store check-out aisle – well, nothing can be done. All I am asking for is sleeves across the front that block the titles. I am not asking for them to not sell the magazines. I think I’m being rather generous.
I called 1-800-Wal-Mart and explained. All they said was they will take my number and look into it. I informed them they took my number last year – I’ve never heard from them and the issues has not been resolved.
Last week for back to school was one of the rare occasions I go to Wal-Mart – all because of the magazine issue. I choose to go to family-friendly stores with family-friendly check-out aisles.
I have heard a lot lately about corporations being too big to fail. Wal-Mart is a perfect example why big corporations ultimately fail – turning deaf ears to what their customers value.
If you are tired of seeing these magazines in your check-out aisle without sleeves – please call and complain. Let’s work together to keep check-out aisles family friendly! Call 1-800-Wal-Mart today.
