With the 4th of July a few days away, picnics and celebration in the planning, and fireworks! Oh – I love fireworks. I thought I would share my aunt’s salad dressing to add sparkle and dazzle to your Independence Day celebrations!
Aunt Joyce’s Salad Dressing came into the family the summer before I left for college – and never left. Like salt and pepper in the cupboard, real butter, eggs, heavy cream and the salad dressing are refrigerator mainstays.
When I think of America, I think of Currier and Ives pictures, Betsy Ross’s American Flag, Billy Graham’ evangelism, Ronald Reagan’s rebirth of America’s greatness, grandmother’s friend chicken, iced tea, front porch swings – and Aunty Joyce’s Any-Time Salad Dressing.
Aunt Joyce’s Any-Time Salad Dressing
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp. onion salt
1/2 tsp. celery salt
1/4 tsp. cayenne
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
2 tbsp. vinegar (tarragon or malt)
2 tbsp. catsup or tomato juice
dash of Tabasco
1 cup salad oil
1 clove garlic
Combine all ingredients. I double the recipe! This dressing also makes a savory marinade sauce for steaks. I have also sautéed zucchini and squash in the dressing with delicious results.
