(I really, really intended to just write one or two lines – to create a Simply Saturday, a Still Saturday. . . )
Dying fields of wheat and corn – miles and miles of it – I saw on the back roads of Kentucky last August. The drought had dried up a lot of hope – a lot of seasonal prosperity.
It was haunting – the devastation.
Whether it’s droughts or challenges in the daily – it’s a life-time battle – to not be sifted like wheat, to not be separated from our Savior over big and little things.
Our Savior, though, the son of the King, the great I Am – He champions us against those scythe-like attacks aimed to destroy the goodness inside we have been created to give, our God-designed potential.
“Simon, Simon, behold, Satan demanded to have you, that he might sift you like wheat{separate you like chaff} from the wheat, but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned again, strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22: 31-32)
You know those multiplication tables we learned long ago – and that our children are learning now – He created multiplication. We see it in bee hives, in how many bowls a pot of soup will fill, in the design of the cells in our bodies.
God designed multiplication – in nature and in us. Not to just physically multiply, though. Since God is a holistic God, who creates layers and layers to his designs, it is important to recognize – open our eyes wide – that the things of our soul are designed to multiply – to grow, to reproduce – to give the spirit things of ourselves away – to make more –
It is our choice – of what we make more of – anger, a stingy heart growing stingier, negativity – or to multiply things of God:
“things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse” (Philippians 4:8)
until like one wheat stalk, not separated from its chaff – becomes a field’s worth of His mercy, grace and love
that helps feed hungry souls
that each heart might understand its cry – a soul crying out to its creator, its King, its brother
and who discover, eyes wide open, that though we might feel and be brought low by the challenges in the daily
when we love God-recklessly
we have the ability for one soul to affect a field’s worth of people.
“Listen carefully: Unless a grain of wheat is buried in the ground, dead to the world, it is never any more than a grain of wheat. But if it is buried, it sprouts and reproduces itself many times over. In the same way, anyone who holds on to life just as it is destroys that life. But if you let it go, reckless in your love, you’ll have it forever, real and eternal” (John 12: 24-25)
If you feel like giving up. Feel like holding back mercy and love – remember, He is praying for you. He is your champion, fighting for you behind the scenes. Throw the hurt, the anger, the bitterness, the confusion – don’t let it be a scythe separating you from God. Choose to love recklessly – that choice will multiply like wheat in a field.
Oh the power of multiplication. I want my life to be multiplied, to touch others, to change lives. I am so thankful I have an Advocate to goes to the Father on my behalf! Blessings!
I especially love how you wrote:
“we have the ability for one soul to affect a field’s worth of people.”
I want to submit to the Lord. I want to allow Him to work in me and through me to impact others for His purposes.
Beautiful post.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
We have field that look just like that here. It is so sad. We had too much rain this summer.
This is describing me so well. All those times I am not able to believe, I always turn to out Lord Jesus and ask Him to believe in my stead. Thanks for reminding me of this prayer of Jesus.
Blessings XX
