The rain fell gently. Our cat huddled under the porch chair with a caterpillar - an unlikely pair. The caterpillar tried inching away. Never try inching away when you are littler than the cat sitting beside you. The cat gently pawed at the caterpillar. It curled into a ball. The cat stared at the rain. The caterpillar saw its chance, scooting away as quickly as all its 6+ little legs could go. The cat’s-paw snagged out, rolling it backwards.
And we stood, inside the doorway, watching. “Don’t let it the cat eat it,” I cried, reaching for the doorknob.
And they all laughed, like little boys.
“Maybe Cleo’ll eat it and burp up a butterfly in a few weeks,” one of them giggled.
The joyful one opened the door after a great round of amusement at mom and the cat to collect the cat. A very sullen, sulky cat now. We watched the caterpillar scoot away. I wonder if caterpillars know they will fly one day. I bet he wished he was already grown up with wings so he wouldn’t have to suffer through cats and boys.
He left me a bit envious: He might be scooting now, but he will fly one day with cool, colorful wings. Literally. That is his life cycle – everybody watching at the window knew that. No doubt!
I want to fly both figuratively and literally. I know God put dream wings within each of us. And, I guess, just like that little butterfly, it is all about dream survival. Scooting along, suffering challenges like cat paws, trusting those dream wings will emerge at the right time. Scooting along in faith! Fighting doubt like a caterpillar trying to surivive cat’s paws. Growing Dream Wings is not for the faint-hearted!
What Dream Are you Waiting on to Grow Wings?

What are Your Dreams?

I have a writing dream. Right now it is just in my mind, but one day I want to get it out and on paper and hopefully published.
My other dreams are for my family. Moving to a new place and starting fresh. Making some big changes that will be good for all of us. A little scary…..but I’m sure the butterfly is a little scared the first time she tries out those new wings too.
This is a beautiful story. I loved pondering the idea of whether the butterfly knows it will fly someday.
I think we get so stuck in the now sometimes that we forget we will fly someday.
I think we forget to see it in those around us as well. I am going to try to see those around me as future butterflies for a while and see how it changes my perspective.
Thank you for this.
Hehe, boys are funny.
I’ve been looking for a dream for a while now… after my last one suddenly got killed off by unexplained deafness.
You were talking about reading the other day. I love books, as you know, and I love audiobooks (we grew up with no TV, my mum used audiobooks to keep me happy in my room when she had to do stuff in the house!) And I have a good voice. I would love to narrate audiobooks… but with no studio and small kids, no chance, right?
Wrong.
I found a volunteer website called Librivox, where you can record and “publish” public domain texts from home (free for others to listen of course), and a few of the people there got their start in voice-acting that way! I just finished my first recording but it hasn’t been proof-listened yet so can’t give you a link.
I can even record in French or indeed other languages if the mood takes me, so it’s perfect!
This caterpillar is very happy to have found out it will still grow wings some day.
Saying hi from SITS! What a nice post. I guess I’m not sure what my dream is — I’ve been so wrapped up for years now making sure that my kids’ dreams will be able to come true. I suppose it is finding a way to get back into the paid working world doing something I enjoy. Hence the new foray into food blogging. Even an old caterpillar like me may eventually get wings
Such sweet words, as usual. I have dreams. One is to be completely well, or at least well enough to get out and join my family in their lives so that I don’t always feel so left behind. I also dream of giving birth to a son. I have had this dream for a long time. I don’t know why but I do. However, at this point in time it would be nothing short of a miracle, given my age (41), my health and the fact that we decided way too young to that my husband would get ‘fixed’. However, we would be happy for a son, any son, no matter how the Lord chose to give him to us. Do you wanna share one of yours? :0)
I hope you are having a great Friday. I would love for you to come by and check out the video I have posted. It is AMAZING!

Neat story! I love your son’s comment about burping up a butterfly. That was funny.
The catterpillar will fly with beautiful wings some day and my dream would definitely be to see our kids grow up to be fine godly people. Loving the Lord with all of their heart, soul and mind. Serving Him with joy and being a blessing to Him.
I see you had a birthday. Happy belated birthday! I hope it was a real nice time. It sounds like you had some fun with family and friends.
Here’s hoping you’ll have fine weekend,
Nannette
lol, burping up butterflies… Your joyful one sounds like quite a character.
My dream is to publish a book of poems one day.
Dear ML
This is another deep post…funny at the start, but it goes deeper.
We all have dreams. Some of them are clear to us, others are still buried inside, and will take time for us to recognize what they are.
I am sure your dreams will come true someday.
Love
Lidj
I love when dreams come true. Sometimes it is hard to stay focused on the dream when we’re in the midst of the mire, but I think that we must so as not to be lost.
I’m in the process of writing a book so that’s a big one for me and also to see all six of my boys/men make it in life and take advantage of all it has to offer, this is the same for my daughter.
Following from blog frog link
About writing your book, Tomica, keep going! Your dedication will not only inspire your daughter but may also encourage your men-folk to keep going.
This was so great. I want to have beautiful wings to fly one day too. Just to have reached that potential that God intended for me. Like the caterpillar.
My dream is to have children someday and to be a published writer. I’m hoping one day both of those come true!
I want JDaniel to be a Godly man and to live to know my grandchildren.
